Men's Hockey claims 1,000th win in UST history

St. Thomas fell behind 2-0 then scored five consecutive goals en route to a 5-3 win over Hamline in MIAC men's hockey play Friday night at St. Paul's Drake Arena. In the process, Coach Terry Skrypek's team won the 1,000th game in St. Thomas' 86-year history.
UST is now 1,000-581-66 -- the lone current Division III program to reach 1,000 victories.
Andrew Kappers scored two goals and John Jacques had three assists for the Tommies (9-7-2 overall, 6-2-1 MIAC). Freshman Cary Wood had 24 saves and improved to 5-0 as a starter, all in the last 22 days.
The Pipers (11-6-1, 6-3) outshot UST 27-21 and only gave UST one power-play try.
The teams play again Saturday night in Mendota Heights at 7 p.m.
Over the last eight days, St. Thomas is 10-0 in MIAC hockey and basketball.
