Men's Hockey falls 3-2 on goal in final 1:01

Junior David Martinson scored with 1:01 remaining to lift Gustavus (10-7 overall, 5-3 MIAC) to a 3-2 win over host St. Thomas (6-7-2, 3-2-1) in Saturday night's MIAC men's hockey game in Mendota Heights.
The Tommies suffered their first regular-season sweep at the hands of Gustavus in men's hockey in 25 seasons.
Gustavus swept the Tommies in two MIAC playoff games at the Fairgounds Coliseum in March 1997 but was 0-12-1 on Tommies' home ice since then. The Gusties' 0-11 road record vs. UST over the previous 10 seasons included an 0-6 record at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.
Tom Knutson scored on a long shot for a power-play goal at 16:11 of the first to give UST a 1-0 lead, but Gustavus' Casey Dynan tied the game with a short shot to the upper right corner at 18:53.
Knutson scored 2:21 into the second period for a 2-1 lead, but Gustavus scored a power-play goal nine seconds into the third by James Leathers.
Martinson, who scored three goals in Friday's 5-3 home win, gave the Gusties their first lead as he connected with 61 seconds left.
Both teams went 1-for-5 on the power play. Tyler Chestnut had 18 saves in goal for UST, while Josh Swartout had 21 saves for the Gusties. UST had a 12-game home ice unbeaten streak halted (10-0-2).Tommie sophomore Rob Johnson had a scoring streak of 11 games halted. The Tommies are home next weekend for two games vs. Concordia.
