Host Gustavus scored three goals in a 3:02 stretch early in the third period and posted a 5-3 win over St. Thomas in MIAC men's hockey play Frriday night in St. Peter.
The Gusties (9-7 overall, 4-3 MIAC) converted three power-play goals while the Tommies (6-6-2, 3-1-1)converted two. The teams play again Saturday night at Saint Thomas Ice Arena in the final game of the series.
Tom Knutson scored two goals and one assist and Rob Johnson scored a goal for the eighth game in a row for the Toms, who took their first conference loss.
Sean Deichert played the first 54:44 in goal and had 24 saves.
