4-0 Saturday for UST in FB, Volleyball, Soccer

St. Thomas went 4-0 in varsity team sports Saturday and are 9-1 combined over the last eight days.
The Tommie men's soccer tema rallied to win 2-1 at Concordia. Mike Hutton scored on a penalty kick in the 49th minute to tie the score, then Derek Engler scored in the 76th minute for the eventual game winner. UST stayed in the conference title race as it improved to 9-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the MIAC. Click here to view final box score:

The Tommie football team broke to a 16-0 halftime lead and won 30-22 at Gustavus. Sophomore running back Ben Wartman rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns to lead St. Thomas (3-1 overall, 2-1 MIAC). Freshman Fritz Waldvogel had a big day with 12 receptions and 180 yards. the Toms allowed just 22 rushing yards.

The unbeaten Tommie women's soccer team won 3-0 at Concordia-Moorhead and moved to 8-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the MIAC. Coach Sheila McGill's team broke a five-game losing streak to the Cobbers in the series. Three different players had goals for UST -- Kirsten Moran, Allie Emch and Ann Speltz.
The No. 6-ranked UST volleyball team scored a 25-14, 25-16, 25-11 sweep of St. Catherine. St. Thomas ran its season win streak to 16 and its conference win streak to 19.

Elsewhere, the UST men's and women's golf teams compete in day one of the three-day MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.
