Tommies start well in Oregon

Senior Rachelle Dosch had 68 kills, 60 digs and hit .312 over 10 games to lead 10th-ranked St. Thomas to a 4-0 finish at the Boxer Invite in Forest Grove, Ore. The two-day volleyball tournament concluded Sunday evening.

Two other Tommies had efficient tournments -- Kristin Storrs had 34 kills and hit .330, and Katie McCaffrey had 29 kills and hit .392.

In Saturday's season-opening matches, the Toms beat host Pacific, 30-15, 30-28, 30-22, as they hit .331 on the match. They came back to post a four-game win over Texas Lutheran, 30-14, 33-31, 30-32, 30-22.

On Sunday, St. Thomas rolled past Lewis & Clark 30-15, 30-16, 30-21 in a noon match, then closed the tournament with a 30-21, 30-21, 30-21 sweep of No. 20-ranked Whitworth.

St. Thomas competes next weekend in the Augsburg tournament.
