Women's Hockey sails to 6-0 win over Blugolds

Four different players scored second-period goals to lead the St. Thomas women's hockey team to a 6-0 victory over visiting UW-Eau Claire in non-conference play Wednesday in Mendota Heights.
Junior All-American Becky Kilpatrick earned her fifth career shutout as she stopped all 18 shots in goal for the Tommies (1-0).
In winning their home season debut, the Toms avenged a 3-2 loss to the Blugolds from last season. They outshot Eau Claire 28-18. Freshman Jill Arendt stopped 22 of 28 shots for UWEC (3-2).
UST freshman Ashley Reinhardt scored two goals and junior Maureen Hardwick and freshman Holly Noble each had a goal and an assist. Soph Allison Turgeon added two assists, and junior Melanie Drake and soph Maria Richardson added goals for UST.
After a scoreless first period, Hardwick (2:05) and Noble (4:55) scored even-strength goals early in the second for a 2-0 lead. Reinhardt and Drake scored six minutes apart later in the period for a 4-0 lead.
St. Thomas opens MIAC play Friday night at home vs. Bethel (7 p.m.) The Toms are 34-4-3 vs. conference foes over the last two seasons.
