Men's basketball wins; Mark Buri surpasses 1,000 points

Mark Buri became the 23rd player in St. Thomas men's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points as he finished with 16 points, five assists and four steals and played all 40 minutes in Friday night's 70-63 victory over Randolph-Macon. Buri now has 1,008 points.
The season-opening game was in the first round of the Al Van Wie Classic in Wooster, Ohio. The Tommies play host Wooster Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for the championship. Wooster topped Pitt-Bradford 96-84.
St. Thomas made 11-of-17 3-pointers to just 7-of-23 treys for Randolph-Macon and also posted a 32-24 rebounding edge. Tommie junior guard Brendan Finn scored a career-high 18 points, junior Kevin Fitzgerald added 15 points amd senior Cole Butler scored 12.
The game was tied 37-37 at halftime. The Tommies went ahead to stay on Butler's basket with 16:00 to play. R-M never got closer than five points in the final 10:00.
