Jenny Phillips graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a BA in 1989. She was a nine-time track and field All-American on sprints and relays. She was a member of four MIAC champion track teams, placing twice at the Division III national tournament in the 400-yard dash (1986, 1989). Phillips held the school steals record (323) for 11 years, and still holds the school record for 3-pointers made in one game (6). She scored 897 points in three seasons. Her last team went 22-5, was a MIAC runner-up and an NCAA playoff qualifier.
