Richard Schiell is entering his seventh season as the assistant coach of the St. Thomas women's basketball team in 2022-23.

Previously, Schiell had been involved in coaching for the Team Wisconsin Basketball AAU club, an elite high school club team. There, Schiell helped coach many WBCA and AP All-State selections, plus other future collegiate basketball players. In addition, to being both a head coach and assistant coach within Team Wisconsin, Schiell had responsibilities in evaluating and recruiting players to be a part of the Select program, playing a national level schedule at the elite AAU club level.

His coaching career started with Amery (Wis.) High School girls' basketball. There he volunteered for four years scouting opponents and working with players' off-season development.

Schiell is a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering. Coach Schiell currently resides in Apple Valley, Minn., with his wife, Jordan.
