Kelsey Whaley
Kelsey Whaley joined St. Thomas athletics after being named the Director of Athletic Communications in June of 2023. She was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications in June 2024.
 
Whaley previously served in the same position at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa since June 2022. She oversaw all athletic communications functions and served as the primary media contact for Luther’s 19 athletic programs. Whaley was also the primary media contact for the College Game of Dreams, the first college baseball game ever played at the Field of Dreams movie site field. She is a member of the College Sports Communications (CSC), formerly CoSIDA, and is the Chair of the CSC New Media Committee. Whaley was a CSC 30 under 30 Award Recipient in 2022, an award that recognizes up-and-coming strategic, creative and digital athletics communications professionals throughout the CSC membership.

Prior to joining the staff at Luther College, Whaley served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. During her tenure with the Huskies, Whaley served as the primary media contact for the Huskies athletics teams and oversaw all creative elements, including graphic design efforts and social media. She additionally oversaw several areas of traditional sports information, including website upkeep, publications, photography and game day operations such as statistics. While at St. Cloud State, multiple teams made historic runs in their respective conference and NCAA tournaments, for which Whaley was responsible for providing coverage. In 2021, Whaley received "Best In Nation" and "Best Cover of a Postseason Media Guide" awards from CoSIDA for her graphic design work during the Huskies run to the Frozen Four in men's hockey. She won the same awards in 2022 for her Huskies Wrestling National Championship poster. 

Additionally, Whaley worked with the media and served as a liaison on multiple projects, both during her time with the Huskies and at St. Catherine University, where she served as the Sports Information Director from January 2016 to April 2018. These projects include the 2021 Division I Men's Hockey Frozen Four and 2021 Division II Wrestling National Championship, as well as the 2017 Division III St. Paul Softball Super Regional and 2018 Division III Basketball Semifinal and Final in Rochester, Minn. She also served on several national committees, including the USBWA Division III Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week committee, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and began her time as Chair of the CSC New Media committee.

In addition to her positions at St. Cloud State and St. Kate's, Whaley was the Assistant Director of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and held several positions in sports journalism. She graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisc., in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Studies and Music.
