Thomas Barber begins his first season as part of the St. Thomas football coaching staff in 2023 as an assistant coach with responsibility of the nickels.
Barber joined the Tommies after spending the 2022 season as a graduate assistant coach at his alma mater Minnesota. He helped the Golden Gophers finish third overall in scoring defense and fourth in total defense while the defense led the conference in third down conversion rate.
Prior to joining the Gophers, Barber spent the 2021 season as linebackers coach at Augsburg University. He coached one All-MIAC honorable mention selection for the Auggies.
A four-year letter winner with the Golden Gophers from 2016-19, Barber finished his career with 274 tackles (167 solo), 19.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, four forced fumbles and finished tied for second in school history with seven fumble recoveries.
Barber earned All-Big Ten Third Team honors in 2017 as a sophomore, while as a senior he was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. Barber was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and earned multiple team honors, including the 2019 R.T.B. Trust Award and the Neil Fredenburg Award (courage and love of the game) in both 2017 and 2018.
Barber graduated from Minnesota with a degree in business and marketing education in 2019.
