Michael Armstrong is entering his second season on the University of St. Thomas football staff in 2022. In his role as Director of Football and Recruiting Operations for Tommie Football, he will handle team travel, budget, and recruiting logistics. He will also be the liaison for the football program with various departments around campus.
From April 2016 to April 2021, Michael served as the Director of Football Operations/ Recruiting Coordinator for Grambling State University in Louisiana. While on staff there he handled all football and recruiting operations for the Tigers. He also handled all of the video duties for the program, and was the NFL Liaison, meeting with all 32 NFL teams regarding top prospects. While at Grambling he was a part of back-to-back SWAC conference championships in 2016 and 2017 as well as team being recognized as 2016 Historical Black College and University (HBCU) national champs.
From 2012 to 2015, Armstrong was a part of the staff at Ave Maria University in Naples, Fla. He held numerous positions during his tenure, including defensive line coach, secondary coach, tight ends coach, video coordinator, recruiting coordinator and director of football operations. He helped guide Ave Maria to the NAIA Independent conference championship during the 2013 season with a 9-2 overall record.
A native of Stony Point, N.Y., Armstrong played defensive end for Chowan University in North Carolina, graduating with a degree in Sport Management in 2010. He earned his master’s degree in sport administration from Grambling State University in 2021.
Michael and his wife Melissa reside in the St. Paul area.
