Jesse Walton enters his first season at St. Thomas serving as the cornerbacks coach, 2022 is his 11th year of coaching at the collegiate level.
Walton joins the Tommies in 2022 after spending the last three seasons at Eastern Illinois University as Assistant Head Coach. During the 2021 season, Walton was named interim head coach for two weeks, as the head coach handled a family emergency. In addition to this role, he also served as the director of football operations, player development, and outside linebackers coach (2019-2020) for the Panthers. As the Panthers OLB Coach, Walton mentored All-Ohio Valley Conferece players Dytarious Johnson, Ray Crittenden and Jason Johnson; who helped lead a defense that ranked 26th in all of FCS.
Prior to his time at EIU, Walton served as the OLB/safeties coach and recruiting coordinator at University of Wisconsin Platteville (2018-2019). Walton helped coach a run defense that ranked 18th in the nation and second in WIAC, and coached three All-Conference selections in the 2018 season: including team MVP Clay Becker.
Before joining the staff at UW-Platteville, Walton coached wide receivers at North Park University (2016-2017), was the defensive backs and special teams coordinator at Nichols College (2003-2006), and defensive backs coach at Butler University (2001).
Walton graduated with a bachelor's degree in Education from Butler University in 2000, where he played defensive back as a 3-year starter and team captain. He also earned his master’s degree in business administration from Nichols College in 2004. He and his wife Melissa have three children (Hannah, Jackson and Hayden).
