Pair of Cross Country teams, four individuals named to 2026 Hall of Fame

St. Thomas’ first national championship teams highlight incoming class

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The University of St. Thomas welcomes four individual former student-athletes and two teams into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame in September.
 
The class that spans between 37 years will have an induction ceremony and dinner on Friday, Sept. 25 before the Hall of Fame Wall unveiling and a halftime recognition at Tommie Football's Homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 26.
 
The 2026 inductees represent five different Tommie sports programs:
- Chris Bullis '08 (Baseball 2004-08)
- Shae Bottum '18 (Men's Soccer 2014-17)
- Jenna Dockter '15 (Women's Basketball 2011-15)
- Gina Utecht '03 (Softball 1999-2003)
- 1981 & 1982 Women's Cross Country Teams
 
Ceremonies
The 2026 Hall of Fame dinner and induction event will be held in the James B. Woulfe Alumni Hall on Friday, September 25. The inductees will also have their names unveiled on the Hall of Fame Wall on the second floor of the Anderson Athletic & Recreation Complex on Saturday, September 26 at 12 p.m. and will be celebrated during halftime at the Tommies' home football game against San Diego, with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m. at O'Shaughnessy Stadium & Palmer Field.

St. Thomas inducted Hall of Fame members every three years since its first induction class in 1974. The inductions and ceremonies shifted to an annual selection process starting with the 2022 class.
 
The overall Tommie Athletics Hall of Fame now includes 236 individuals and eight teams.

2026 St. Thomas Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees
Chris Bullis, Baseball (Class of 2008)
Three-time All-American, earning Rawlings All-America and ABCA/Coaches All-America honors in 2008… three-time All-MIAC selection (2006-08) and three-time MIAC All-Tournament Team honoree (2005, 2007-08)… named the 2007 MIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player… served as team captain in 2007 and 2008… graduated as the St. Thomas career (.434) and single-season (.489) batting average record holder… also compiled a 13-3 career record as a pitcher.
 
Shae Bottum, Men's Soccer (Class of 2018)
Three-time All-American, including 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III National Player of the Year honors… two-time All-American and 2017 MIAC Player of the Year… captained the Tommies to the program's first NCAA Final Four appearance in 2016 and an NCAA Elite Eight berth in 2017… helped lead St. Thomas to consecutive MIAC regular-season and playoff championships in 2016 and 2017, including the program's only perfect MIAC season (12-0-0 combined regular season and postseason) in 2017… guided the Tommies to school-record 20 victories in 2016 before surpassing that mark with a 22-2 record in 2017… scored nine goals, including eight game-winning goals, and added a school-record 15 assists during his National Player of the Year season… helped elevate the program from nine wins during his freshman season to a school-record 22 victories as a senior.
 
Jenna Dockter, Women's Basketball (Class of 2015)
2015 MIAC Player of the Year and D3hoops.com First Team All-American… named the 2015 D3hoops.com West Region Player of the Year and was one of three finalists for the Division III National Player of the Year award… two-time All-MIAC selection (2012-13, 2014-15) and 2015 MIAC All-Defensive Team honoree… led the Tommies to a perfect 25-0 regular season, an 18-0 MIAC record and the 2015 MIAC playoff championship, becoming just the second team in program history to complete an undefeated 25-game regular season… overcame two significant injuries during her career to finish with 900 points, 207 rebounds, 197 assists and 87 steals in 82 games, cementing her place among the most impactful players in program history.
 
Gina Utchet, Softball (Class of 2003)
First All-American in St. Thomas softball history, earning NFCA First Team All-America honors in 2003… key contributor to the Tommies' 2003 NCAA Division III national championship team and earned NCAA All-Tournament Team honors… two-time NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team selection (2002-03) and two-time All-MIAC honoree (2002-03)… named to the 2003 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team… finished her career with a .324 batting average, 149 hits, 115 RBI, 32 doubles and 17 home runs while helping the Tommies win at least 32 games in each of her four seasons… led the team in RBI during both her junior and senior seasons, including a breakout 2003 campaign in which she hit .389 with 10 home runs and an MIAC-best 45 RBI.
 
1981 & 1982 Women's Cross Country Teams
Back-to-back national championship teams that captured the first national titles in St. Thomas athletics history, winning the 1981 AIAW National Championship and the 1982 NCAA Division III National Championship… claimed the program's first MIAC women's cross country championship in 1982, launching a conference-record streak of nine consecutive league titles… established St. Thomas as a national power by posting a combined 17 team victories over the two seasons, including conference, regional and national championships… the 1981 national championship team featured three All-Americans in Debbie Thometz (first), Teresa Mayer (third) and Angie King (17th), while the 1982 NCAA championship team produced three more All-Americans in Thometz (second), Sarah Hintz (third) and Mayer (sixth)… coached by Joe Sweeney, these teams set a new standard of excellence for Tommie Athletics and laid the foundation for decades of success across the department.
