Avery Wukawitz and Ella Cook each blasted two home runs
Avery Wukawitz led off the game with a bang, her 10th of the season, a new program record. Laken Lienhard followed suit with an absolute blast over the left field fence, her second of the weekend. Kameron Monson brought home Ella Cook with a single after the designated player smashed a one-out triple down the right field line.
Mya Tautges went to work with the run support and worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the first with one strikeout. She finished the day with a win on 3.1 IP, 3R, 2ER, 4K, 5H, and no walks.
The Purple piled on for four more runs in the top of the second. Zoe Trotter got it started with a walk and stolen base. Tautges singled her to third and then forced an error on an attempted steal of second to score Trotter. Wukawitz doubled Tautges home, Lienhard doubled Wukawitz around, and Cook doubled Lienhard to open up a 7-0 lead.
Shortly after the Roos scored their first run of the game, Ella Cook belted her third leg of the cycle over the left field fence to score Miley Wichman. The Toms took their 9-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
Kansas City took advantage of a St. Thomas error to lead off the frame and scored two runs on three hits. Ella Cook relieved Tautges with runners on the corners and one out. After walking her first batter, Cook induced soft contact for one out and slammed the door with a strikeout to keep the Toms out in front by six runs.
As if Avery Wukawitz had not done enough already, the senior center fielder roped a grand slam to straight away center to put her team up 13-3. Her second home run of the afternoon and sixth RBI. Cook, who could have tallied a cycle with a single, opted to deposit her second home run of the game over the fence, 15-3 Tommies.
The Roos tagged Cook for one more run on a big fly but could not stave off the run-rule. The best two-way player in the Summit League pitched 1.2 innings in relief with four strikeouts, one walk, one run allowed on two hits. She also went 4-4 with a double, triple, two home runs, five RBI, three runs, and 13 total bases.
