St. Thomas returns to Summit League play at Oral Roberts

Tommies and Golden Eagles set for three game series
ST. PAUL, MINN.- The St. Thomas Tommies return for weekend two of Summit League play as they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to face the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
Game one: Friday, March 20th (6 p.m. first pitch)
Game two: Saturday, March 21st (2 p.m. first pitch)
Game three: Sunday, March 22nd (1 p.m. first pitch)

History Between the two squads
These two conference foes have grown familiar with eachother over the past five years. The Purple holds a 10-11 overall record against the Golden Eagles.
In their most recent matchup down in Tulsa, the Tommies came away with a 3-1 victory.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Oral Roberts has gotten off to a 11-10 start overall and were perfect (3-0) through the first weekend of conference play. The Golden Eagles swept the South Dakota State Jackrabbits during the opening weekend.
Statistically, Oral Roberts is led by senior outfielder Makani Tanaka who is hitting .316 and has started in all 21 games for the Golden Eagles. On the bump, their staff holds a 5.23 ERA and .253 batting average against.
Last time out
The Tommies made the trip west to Colorado to take on the Northern Colorado Bears during the opening weekend of Summit League play followed by a Monday matinee with the Air Force Falcons.
Due to weather conditions, the Tommies and Bears only played two games in double-header fashion. St. Thomas was victorious in game one winning 8-5 after being down 4-1. Junior Zan Von Schlegell led the offense with three hits and an RBI. Four other Tommies each recorded two hits in the contest.
St. Thomas then headed to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force. The Tommies fell 20-11 in a high scoring game when it was called in the eighth inning. Matthew Maulik led the offense with two hits and five RBIs.
Recchio off and running
Junior second baseman Tanner Recchio has been off to a fast start through the first 19 games of the year. Recchio is hitting .342, with five doubles and a triple. He also leads the Summit League with 13 stolen bases in 16 attempts.
Recchio was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week March 10th.

Leader of the pack
Head Coach Chris Olean enters his 17th season at the helm of the Tommie baseball program in 2026. Olean has totaled a 414-256-1 overall record (338-148-1 in NCAA Division III) since being named head coach prior to the 2010 season.
Olean is a three-time NCAA DIII Region Coach of the Year and closed out its DIII era by winning championships in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and region en route to a national runner-up finish and 37-10 record.
During the last 12 DIII seasons, the Purple won eight MIAC Championships, capped by third-place national finishes in both 2012 and 2014, in addition to the runner-up finish in 2021.
Olean mentored seven DIII All-American pitchers. He was voted MIAC and Midwest Region Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, and 2021. In addition, Olean works with the Tommie pitching staff, which was a perennial top-10 group in DIII baseball.
