VanArragon paces Women’s Golf at Texas Golf Throwdown

The Tommies finished in 11th place against strong competition
THE WOODLANDS, Tex. – St. Thomas women's golf got its 2026 spring season started with an 11th place finish at the Texas Golf Throwdown led by Kathryn VanArragon's below-par third round and 11th place induvidual finish. Iowa State ran away with the competition at two strokes under par as a team, 39 strokes clear of Nebraska in second place. The Toms finished two strokes behind the hosting Sam Houston Bearkats and eight strokes ahead of Eastern Kentucky.
As a team, the Tommies went 316-314-309—939 (+75), improving their score over each round of play.
VanArragon put together team-leading rounds each time out with a complete score of 76-75-71—222 (+6). She climbed seven spots on the leaderboard with her third-round 71. The Blaine, Minn. native began the final round on the 15th hole and birdied the par 4. She finished the final round with seven birdies including a book ending birdie on the 14th hole (her 18th). Kathryn led the entire field with 13 total birdies across 54 holes.
Freshmen, Karen Lind Stefansdottir and Genevieve Birkeland finished tied for 44th place with a score 21 strokes over par. Stefansdottir went 83-77-77—237 and Birkeland went 76-84-77—237. Genevieve's highlight of the competition was an eagle on a par 5 during her opening round, one of five during the entire tournament.
Emma Davies and Amelia Morton finished in 67th and 68th place, respectively. Morton scored with the team in the first round and Davies scores in the second and third contributed to the team total. Davies went 86-78-84—248 and Morton went 81-84-84—249.

The Tommies head to the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. On Monday March 16 and Tuesday March 17.
