Tommies sweep Phoenix, Gusties to open season

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive team kicked off it season in the Anderson Pool on Saturday. The Tommies hosted Green Bay and Gustavus in a season opening three-way dual. The St. Thomas men and women were victorious, opening the season with wins over the Phoenix and Gusties.
MEN'S RESULTS: St. Thomas (228) vs. Gustavus (51); St. Thomas (154) vs. Green Bay (133)
The Tommies men opened the season wtih several individual wins and top-3 finishes, setting the tone for 2026-27.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: St. Thomas (226) vs. Gustavus (70); St. Thomas (207) vs. Green Bay (91)
The Tommie women shined bright with eight different swimmers winning their event, with many of them claiming wins in multiple events.
St. Thomas will return to action October 16-17. The Tommies will compete against Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa in another three-team dual. Friday's session is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

- Austin Kantor (Elk River, Minn. / Elk River) swept the diving events claiming the top spot in both the 1-meter (252.65) and 3-meter dives (257.05).
- Freshman Patrick Bevilacqua (Bolzano, Italy / ITCAT Delai) earned his first collegiate win in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 48.91.
- The 400 Freestyle Relay finished the day with a first-place finish with a time of 3:02.91, team of Fedor Mironov (Moscow, Russia / Our Savior New American), Bevilacqua, Ian Leonard (Muskego Wis. / Muskego) and John Trosper (Clive, Iowa / Waukee).
- There were six Tommies who were able to win their events today, along with Kantor, Bevilacqua, Joesph Sandhoefner Minnetonka, Minn. / Benilde-Saint Margret) won the 100 breaststroke.
- Freshman Jack Borzynski (Racine, Wis. / The Prairie School) secured a personal best in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.04 and a third-place finish.
- Several other St. Thomas swimmers earned top three finishes on Saturday.
WOMEN'S RESULTS: St. Thomas (226) vs. Gustavus (70); St. Thomas (207) vs. Green Bay (91)
The Tommie women shined bright with eight different swimmers winning their event, with many of them claiming wins in multiple events.
- Our divers took the top two spots with Hattie Opdahl (Lindstrom, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) claiming the 1-meter with a score of 267.55 and Maya Kelly (Lake Elmo, Minn. / Stillwater) taking the 3-meter with a score of 293.95.
- Both relay teams earned victories. The 200-medley relay team of Ellie Undem (Chisago City, Minn. / Chisago Lakes), Cathy Dueck (Victory, Minn. / Holy Family), Jordyn Davis (Cambridge, Wis.) and Amber Hess (Kohler, Wis. / Kohler) started of the day with a win and a time of 1:44.53.
- The 400-freestyle relay of Undem, Hess, Dueck and Mary Selden (Davenport, Iowa / Davenport Central) finished the meet with winning time of 3:30.55.
- Along with the 200-medley relay, Undem went on to sweep her events with a personal best time of 23.10 in the 50 Free, and the 100 Free.
- Davis added on to her relay win with two other first place finishes in the 100 (2:06.38) and 200 backstrokes (56.51).
- Several other St. Thomas swimmers earned top three finishes on Saturday.
