SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: Marist took the early lead in the first quarter, as a Peipert interception eventually led to a Red Foxes touchdown. The Tommies responded with a sustained answer, moving from their 28 to the Marist 6 before time expired. Despite the impressive final offensive drive, which included seven first downs and 97 yards of offense, St. Thomas trailed 7-0 after the first quarter.
Second Quarter: The Tommies quickly erased the seven-point deficit, as Stefano Giovannelli (St. Louis Park, Minn. / St. Louis Park) scored on a fake field goal to tie the game at 7-7. Walker Owens' (Wheaton, Ill. / North) fumble recovery on Marist's next offensive drive eventually set up Abel's first touchdown of the afternoon. St. Thomas scored 21 points in the quarter, taking a 21-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Third Quarter: The Tommies kept the Red Foxes off the scoreboard in the third quarter, highlighted by Kyle Winchester (Atlanta, Ga. / Wheeling) forced fumble, recovered by Evan Tyler (Hudson, Wis. / Hudson). Though St. Thomas didn't score in the third quarter, the offense managed to keep possession for 11:49, converting two third downs, with Peipert hitting McCrary for 21 yards on the final drive. Abel's 4-yard run moved the Tommies to the Marist 43 as the quarter ended with St. Thomas leading 21-10.
Fourth Quarter: The Tommies opened the fourth quarter with Peipert's 38-yard touchdown pass to Cobb-Butler and Ben Hoiland's (Mound, Minn. / Mound) PAT, pushing the lead to 28-10. The defense stopped the Red Foxes next drive when Tichy and Owens combined on a sack, before Preston Franklin (Kansas City, Mo. / Liberty) broke up a fourth-down pass at the Tommies' 42-yard line. After a Marist field goal made it 28-13, Abel broke a 34-yard run and later scored from 5 yards out, and Jaden Richberg (Blue Springs, Mo. / Blue Springs) added a late interception to secure the 35-13 win.
