Hauge career day not enough in Kansas City

1/17/2026 4:58:00 PM | Women's Basketball

KANSAS CITY, MO.  – It was a career day for University of St. Thomas women's basketball's Laura Hauge (West St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran). The sophomore scored a career-high 20 points Saturday in Kansas City, accounting for 30% of the Tommie offense against the Kansas City Roos. Unfortunately, Hauge's career day was not enough for St. Thomas to come away with a victory, as the team fell by a final score of 75-60. With the loss, the Tommies are now 9-10 overall and 2-3 in Summit League play.

QUICK HITS:
  • Laura Hauge (West St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) led the way with 20 points for St. Thomas on 6-16 shooting with two rebounds and a block.
  • Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) added 11 points, five rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals on Saturday.
  • Despite strong showings by Hauge and Sand, the Tommies were limited to just 60 points on Saturday. St. Thomas is now 1-10 this season when being held to under 70 points in a game.

SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: Things were going well for the Tommies in the first quarter, as they raced out to a 20-13 lead after the opening ten minutes of play. Hauge scored 11 points in the opening frame, as St. Thomas dominated nearly every facet of the game. The Roos, though, started to gain momentum in the closing minutes, cutting the Tommie lead to 17-11 and then 20-13.

Second Quarter: Kansas City found its rhythm in the second, outscoring St. Thomas 22-13 in the quarter to take a 35-33 halftime lead. The Roos claimed a three point advantage with five minutes to play in the second, but baskets from Autum McCall (Blaine, Minn. / Centennial), Sand and Abbey Vallance (Sydney, Australia / Tara Anglican School) kept the Tommies within striking distance.

Third Quarter: Despite St. Thomas' best efforts in the third quarter, the Roos did not relinquish their lead. In fact, Kansas City impressed defensively, holding the Tommies to just 10 points on 3-12 shooting, including a 0-7 mark from three-point range. Late free throws by Sand kept St. Thomas in the game, but the team trailed 56-43 entering the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter: The Tommies kept pace with the Roos in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to whittle away the lead. A three from Hauge at 4:38 pulled St. Thomas within 11, but the Tommies could not cut the deficit further, as they fell by a final score of 75-60.

UP NEXT:
St. Thomas will return to Lee & Penny Anderson Arena to host first place North Dakota State University on Wednesday, January 21. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
