ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas Senior Associate Athletics Director Amy Cooper has been named the Athletic Director at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cooper, who has been with the Tommies since 2021, will remain at St. Thomas until May 30, 2025.
Cooper joined the Tommies in 2021 as the Senior Associate Athletics Director and SWA, helping St. Thomas with its transition from Division III to Division I. A former student-athlete and coach, Cooper oversaw several areas of the athletic department, including compliance, financial operations and gender equity, while serving as the sport administrator for baseball, women's basketball, women's tennis and volleyball. Earlier this year, Cooper was awarded the Wilma Rudolph Award from the National Collation for Women in Sports Minnesota.
"It's been an incredible journey at St. Thomas, and I'm grateful for the relationships, growth, and impact we've shared during a transformative time in the department's history. I'm honored to take on the role of Athletic Director at Augsburg University—right in my hometown—and I look forward to building on their legacy of student-athlete success while advancing equity, inclusion, and opportunity through sport."
"Amy has been a vital member of our leadership team, and her impact will be felt for a very long time," commented Dr. Phil Esten, VP and Director of Athletics at St. Thomas. "Not only has Amy played a critical role in our reclassification process, but she also led with a student-athlete centric focus, placing priority on their experience and positive outcomes. We wish Amy all the best as she starts this next exciting chapter in her career."
Prior to her time at St. Thomas, Cooper held similar roles at both Howard University and Trinity Washington University and was a coach at Prairie View A&M, South Caroline State University and Southwest Minnesota State University. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cooper was a standout soccer player for Washburn High School and earned MVP and All-Conference honors during her collegiate career at Howard.
