Tommies nab first win of season at Alaska Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team is back in the win column. The Tommies secured their first win of the 2025-26 season in dramatic fashion, downing Alaska Anchorage 77-60 in the first round of the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout. Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) led St. Thomas' offense charge, scoring a career-high 27 points in the victory to help the Tommies improve to 1-4 this season.
QUICK HITS:
- St. Thomas will play UC Irvine in ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout Championship on Saturday, November 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. CT.
- Faith Feuerbach (Sycamore, Ill. / Sycamore) scored 10+ points for the third consecutive game, leading the Tommies with 27 on 10-17 shooting, including a 7-14 mark from beyond the arc. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals in nearly 40 minutes of play.
- St. Thomas hit a season high 16 three-pointers Friday evening, shooting 44% from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Tommies led for more than 38 minutes and never trailed after the opening minutes of the game.
SCORING SUMMARY:
First Quarter: The Tommies set the tone early with active defensive pressure and balanced scoring. Alyssa Sand (Albany, Minn. / Albany) scored nine points in the opening frame as UST built an 11-point lead behind a 10–0 run midway through the quarter.
Second Quarter: St. Thomas caught fire from deep, drilling five threes in the quarter. Feuerbach continued her strong start, and the Tommies pushed their lead to 20 with 4:10 remaining. St. Thomas entered halftime up 37–21 after another stifling defensive period where the Tommies held the Seawolves to 10 points on 24% shooting.
Third Quarter: Alaska Anchorage responded out of the break, forcing turnovers and attacking the paint to trim the margin to single digits. UAA used an 8–0 run to climb within six before key baskets from Jada Hood (St. Paul, Minn. / Roseville Area) and Savannah McGowan (Plymouth, Minn. / Armstrong) steadied the Tommies, allowing them to enter the fourth quarter with a 51-43 lead.
Fourth Quarter: When UAA threatened again, St. Thomas closed the door with its most explosive offensive quarter of the night. The Tommies hit six three-pointers—including multiple daggers from Feuerbach and Laura Hauge (West St. Paul, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) pulling away for good. A late scoring burst from Sand sealed the 77-60 road victory.
TOP TOMMIES:
- Feuerbach was dominant on both sides of the ball Friday evening, scoring a career-high 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists. She additionally shot a career-high 10-17 from the field and knocked down seven threes.
- Sand recorded the first double-double of her Tommie career, scoring 13 points and added a team-leading 10 rebounds in the win. It's her fifth straight double-digit scoring performance.
- Hood closed the game with 10 points, four assists and four rebounds, hitting two threes in the third quarter to maintain the St. Thomas lead.

St. Thomas closes its trip to Alaska on Saturday, as the Tommies advance to the championship game of the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout. St. Thomas will take on UC Irvine in the championship game at 10:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, November 22.
