Musser stopped 39 for second win as a Tommie; five Purple goal scorers

ST. PAUL, Minn. – One year ago, Alex Gaffney skated in just four games for the Harvard Crimson. Fast forward to today and the grad transfer is leading the CCHA in goals and has tallied a career high 19 points in 13 games. He led St. Thomas (5-6-2 overall, 2-2-1 CCHA) to a 6-2 win over Bowling Green (5-4-3, 5-2-3) with two goals and eight shots on net.

Carsen Musser bounced back between the pipes with a season-high 39 saves behind a defense that played tremendously with 13 official blocked shots. Five different Toms scored to down the Falcons: Gaffney (2), Hayes Hundley, Jake Braccini, Lucas Van Vliet, and Lucas Wahlin.

The Tommies won the weekend series, four points to two, and have taken conference points in each of their last four games. This was their first regulation win in CCHA play this season.

Period Summary

First Period
-Ben Doran got the game-winning goal in overtime on Friday night and opened the scoring tonight at 5:30 on the power play.
-Bowling Green earned their second chance on the power play at 8:56 on a Bauer Berry slash. The Tommies turned the tables and scored their fifth shorthanded goal of the season. Alex Gaffney robbed the Falcon netminder and deposited the puck over his right shoulder to tie the game.
-The Tommies outshot the Falcons, 15-12, and Musser settled down after allowing the early power play goal.

Second Period
-After as choppy a second period as they've had all season, the Tommies took the lead late in the frame. Gaffney struck once again at 17:22 from his linemates Lucas Wahlin and Ryan O'Neill. Wahlin fed Gaffney and the New Jersey native one-timed it from a sharp angle in the corner.
-St. Thomas came up empty on the power play during their one opportunity.

Third Period
-The floodgates opened in the final period and freshman defenseman; Hayes Hundley got the party started with his second goal of the season on a trickler from the point. Caige Sterzer got the helper on the Toms' third goal.
-Less than two minutes later at 4:19, Jake Braccini sniped home a shot after Charlie Schoen and Attila Lippai set him up perfectly.
-St. Thomas earned a power play at 5:05 and promptly scored a power play goal at 5:34. Lucas Van Vliet toe-dragged a wrist shot home past the new netminder, Tyler Palmer from Chase Cheslock.
-The Tommies got mixed up on a line change and were whistled for too many skaters on the ice. The Falcons made it a three-goal game again with their second power play tally at 9:34.
-With nothing to lose, BGSU coach Dennis Williams pulled his goaltender at 12:36 while the two sides skated 4-on-4. His Falcons peppered six shots (four on goal and two blocked) before Lucas Wahlin scored one into the empty net at 14:46 from Sterzer and Bauer.
