ST. PAUL, MINN. - The St. Thomas Tommies (7-3-0, 2-2-0) Providence Friars (2-6, 0-2) 5-1 for the first official win in Lee & Penny Anderson Arena.
Quick Hits
After a scoreless first period the Tommies jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the third. The Friars then cut the lead to one before the Purple responded with three goals to take the convincing 5-1 victory.
Five different Tommies netted goals for the Purple.
Scoring Summary:
First Period: The first period was a defensive battle on both ends of the ice. Neither team came away with a goal, even though each had a powerplay opportunity. The Tommies defense tallied five blocks during the first 20 minutes of play.
Second Period: The Tommie offense got rolling in the second, scoring two goals. Freshman Whitney Horton opened the scoring with her second goal of the weekend and season. Chloe Boreen put the Tommies up 2-0, scoring a power play goal for her fourth of the season. Boreen's goal was assisted by Rylee Bartz and JuliAnna Gazdik
Third Period: The Friars then added a goal of their own at 9:49 in the period to cut the Tommies lead to one. The Tommies responded with three goals in the period to earn a 5-1 victory. Rylee Bartz, Ella Boerger, and Nora Sauer netted the three goals.
Top Tommies
Whitney Horton netted her second goal of the weekend.
Chloe Boreen and Rylee Bartz each tallied a goal and assist for two points.
Nora Sauer scored her second goal of the season.
Julia Minotti recorded 19 saves for the Tommies.
Up Next
The Tommies will be back home to close out October and welcome in November as the Ohio State Buckeyes come to town Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
