Powell named PFL Offensive Player of the Week

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of St. Thomas football won its second straight Pioneer Football League (PFL) game on Saturday, downing Valparaiso 55-17 at O'Shaughnessy Stadium. Key to the Tommies' success was senior quarterback Amari Powell (Valencia, Calif. / Chaminade College Prep), who was named the PFL Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Beacons.
POWELL POWER
- Powell threw for 265 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's victory, both career highs for the senior.
- He also rushed for a touchdown in the second quarter, personally accounting for four of the seven touchdowns scored Saturday afternoon.
- His 265-yard performance ranks second all-time in the DI era in single game passing behind Cade Sexauer's 286-yard performance vs. San Diego in 2022.
- Powell joins Andy Peters and Sexauer as the only three quarterbacks to throw for over 250 yards in a game in St. Thomas' DI era.
- Powell additionally is the second quarterback to throw for over 250 yards this season.
- The Tommie quarterback room threw for over 300 yards in back-to-back, a first for the program in its Division I era.

Powell and St. Thomas will head to Florida as the Tommies are set to face Stetson on Saturday, October 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT in DeLand, Florida.
