Women’s Soccer cruises to dominant 6-0 victory

The Tommies scored six goals in the first half against the Viterbo V-Hawks.
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of St. Thomas Women's Soccer team (3-3-1 overall) protected it's home field emphatically with six first half goals against the Viterbo V-Hawks (1-2-0 overall) on Sunday afternoon at South Field. The Tommies ultimately won the non-conference contest, 6-0.
Lexi Huber once again headlined the offense with two goals sandwiched around Abby Brantner's second of the season. Melina Knowles scored the first goal of her collegiate career before Tatum Trettel added her second goal in as many games. Ellie Tempero scored her first goal of 2024 and Olivia Rowe added her second shutout of the year and seventh of her career.

Lexi Huber opened the Tommies' successful first half against the V-Hawks with a goal in the seventh minute. She turned a Viterbo turnover at the 18-yard box into a seeing-eye shot around the goalkeeper and into the net.
Four minutes had barely passed before the Purple struck again in the 11th minute. Crisp passing from Sofia Caballero and Camryn Rintoul just inside the midfield line opened an opportunity for Abby Brantner. The senior captain unleashed a perfect shot from long range to double the Tommie lead.
Huber increased her team-leading goal tally to five in the 13th minute. Once again it was Caballero that set the table, this time from a corner kick. Huber headed the kick over the keeper and into the goal. She is now the Summit League leader with five goals.
Next to score for the Tommies was freshman, Melina Knowles in the 17th minute. The Plymouth, Wisconsin native fended off multiple V-Hawks in the penalty box before sending a shot through to the nylon. She is the second Tommie freshman to score this season.
Tatum Trettel went 12 career games without a goal but followed up her first career score against Northern Iowa with a fantastic run and finish against Viterbo. The redshirt sophomore zoomed through five defenders and bested the keeper in the 32nd minute.
St. Thomas' final score of the half (and of the game) came off the head of Ellie Tempero. She was granted the opportunity by a well-placed corner kick from Molly Knoblauch in the 41st minute.
Olivia Rowe made three saves in her second shutout of the season. The Tommies outshot the V-Hawks 28-3 with a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. They also had nine chances on corner kicks while Viterbo had none.
