Women’s Soccer battles South Dakota to scoreless draw

The Tommies earned their first Summit League point of the season
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of St. Thomas Tommies (4-4-2 overall, 0-0-1 Summit League) tied the South Dakota Coyotes (2-5-3 overall, 0-0-1 Summit League) for the first time in program history on Thursday evening at South Field. Neither team found the back of the net as the Tommies recorded their fourth clean sheet of the season.
Olivia Rowe made four saves in net while Abby Brantner and Ellie Tempero played all 90 minutes in front of her on the back line of defense.
Recap
The first shot of the game did not come until the fifth minute and the first shot on goal was not recorded until the 18th minute of a defensive heavyweight battle. The Tommies put their first of two shots on goal in the stat sheet in the 21st minute when Camryn Rintoul was stuffed by South Dakota goalkeeper, Cambell Fischer. The Coyotes added one more shot on net in the 45th minute to top off a low-chance first half.
Not much changed in the second half of a game that was decided primarily in the midfield. South Dakota, once again, put the first shot of the half on net in the 62nd minute. They mounted another attack in the 70th minute but Rowe was on top of her game and made the stop. The Toms' final shot of the game came from Lissa Mizutani in the 81st minute.
Molly Knoblauch had a chance to upend the scoreless contest with a corner kick in the final minute. Her entry made its way, untouched, through the box as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
South Dakota came out on top with four shots on goal to the Toms' two and also outchance the Tommies with three corner kicks to two. Fouls were nearly even with 12 going against the Tommies and 11 against the Coyotes.
