Roder walk-off hit secures series over Northern Colorado

Tommies secure Summit League series with 2-1 win in extra innings against the Bears
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Thomas baseball secures series against Northern Colorado with a 2-1 win in extra innings. After falling in game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, the Tommies (16-19, 11-6 Summit) earned a conference victory over Northern Colorado (9-31-1, 8-12-1 Summit) in the series finale.
Game One – L, 4-1
Northern Colorado came out to an early lead scoring a run in the first inning. The Bears held the lead the remainder of the game, as the Tommies fell 4-1 in game one.
Brigs Richartz recorded the lone RBI for the Tommies, bringing in Joe Roder. Roder went 2-for-2 in the game with two hits and two walks.
The St. Thomas pitching staff combined for seven strikeouts in game one.
Game Two – W, 2-1
Game two remained scoreless through the first four innings until the Bears once again took the lead over St. Thomas.
The Tommies responded as Tanner Recchio scored his first of two runs just an inning later. The score remained tied for the remainder of game, sending the St. Thomas into extra innings for the third time this season.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, Joe Roder recorded his second base hit of the day to walk it off for the Tommies.
The Tommie pitchers, Devon Schewe, Walker Retz, and Bryce Leedle (1-2) combined for 6 strikeouts, allowing five hits in the final game of the series.
