Tommie Baseball falls in extra innings to Minnesota

It took 11 innings at Siebert Field to decide the outcome as the Gophers top the Tommies 7-6 on Tuesday night

MINNEAPOLIS –  St. Thomas baseball stayed closed to home, traveling across the river to face the Gophers in a midweek game. In extra innings, the Tommies (14-17, 9-5 Summit) fell to Minnesota (17-18, 4-8 Big Ten) in a close match up at Siebert Field.
 
St. Thomas baseball took an early lead over Minnesota on Tuesday night, scoring six runs through the first four innings, including four in the third frame.
 
Part of the Purple's burst of runs, Brigs Richartz tallied a two-run homer to bring the Tommies lead to 5-0. An inning later, Matthew Maulik tallied an RBI-double to add to the Tommies' lead.
 
After Minnesota rallied back to even the game at six runs a piece, the teams went into the ninth frame tied up.
 
Bryce Leedle entered the game in the ninth, throwing three strikeouts to send the game into extra innings. Leedle (0-2) totaled four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.
 
Ben Vujovich went 2-for-4 and recorded two runs on Tuesday night. Joe Vos tallied his seventh multi-hit game of the season against Minnesota.
