Tommies cannot put pieces together in 4-0 loss to North Dakota State

St. Thomas Softball stranded five runners left on base while being shut out by the Bison.
FARGO, N.D. – The University of St. Thomas Softball team (6-26, 2-2 Summit League) could not capitalize on their chances against North Dakota State (13-23, 1-3), falling 4-0 to the Bison in seven innings on a frosty Friday afternoon.
GAME RECAP
The Tommies' Kaitlyn Raymond got on first with a one-out single and then to second with her sixth stolen base of the season. The third-year outfielder would be stranded on second after two outs to conclude the top of the first inning, a look of things to come for the offense on a frustrating Friday.
After working a scoreless first inning, Ella Cook allowed two runs on a one-out double in the bottom of the second. Just a week after Cook dominated the Kansas City Roos, the sophomore kept her team within striking distance in a complete game loss. She allowed four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
St. Thomas had a chance to answer in the top of the third with a Kameron Monson leadoff double. Laken Lienhard slapped a one-out single to right field to put Monson on third. Once again, they went no further.
Abbi Stierlen singled in the fourth, Monson walked in the fifth, and Avery Wukawitz singled in sixth, but no runs across in any frame. Wukawitz and Raymond each stole a base in the contest, Wukawitz's team-leading ninth of the year.
UP NEXT
The Tommies finish up their season series with the North Dakota State Bison tomorrow for a doubleheader scheduled for noon and 2:30 p.m.
