The Tommies unloaded for eight runs in game two but fell in both contests played in College Station.
COLLEGE STATION, Tex. – St. Thomas Softball (1-13) dropped game one to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions (12-3) 9-1 and fell to the Texas San Antonio Roadrunners (3-11) 12-8 on Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational.
GAME ONE RECAP
The Lions jumped on the Toms quickly with one run in the top of the first inning. St. Thomas starter Christina Crawford limited the damage and stranded a runner on third base.
The Tommies answered right back in the bottom of the inning. Avery Wukawitz led the Toms' offensive day off with a single. Cassidy Carby and Ella Cook each followed with one-out walks to load the bases for Laken Lienhard. The junior transfer crafted an infield RBI single to score Wukawitz and tie the ballgame.
The contest remained tied at one until the fourth inning when the Lions retook the lead on a leadoff solo home run. Next, they loaded the bases in the fifth inning and brought around all four runs on a grand slam. SLU tacked on three more in the top of the sixth. The Toms could not fend off the run-rule despite a late two-out double from Marleigh Louvar (her first career hit).
Avery Wukawitz led the offense going 2-4 with two singles, a stolen base and a run scored. Lienhard's and Louvar's hits were the only others in the game for the Purple.
GAME TWO RECAP
The Tommies could not hold onto their 8-4 lead after four innings as the Roadrunners rallied for two runs in the fifth and sixth and four in the seventh.
Wukawitz got the day started for the Tommies in the bottom of the first with her first home run of the season. The sophomore ultimately finished 2-4 with the home run and two runs scored. Lienhard also brought around an RBI in the first with a bases-loaded walk. She finished 1-3 with a run scored and the team's first triple of the 2024 season.
The Purple struck for five runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by Morgan Klein's three-run home run to score Kaitlyn Raymond and Cassidy Carby. Klein followed the longball up with an RBI single in the fourth.
St. Thomas could not put the pieces together offensively after Klein's run-scoring single.
