Max Nyrop records home run and three RBIs in Tommies in win over Redhawks

Cape Girardeau, Mo. -- The St. Thomas baseball team earned a win over SEMO on Friday afternoon.

Max Nyrop drove home a 2-RBI double to give the Tommies an early lead and added a home run in the top of the eighth inning to help secure the win over the Redhawks.

St. Thomas Baseball earned the early lead over SEMO after Max Nyrop drove in a 2-RBI double.

A leadoff walk at the top of the third led to two runs for the Tommies. Brigs Richartz flied out to right field, sending in Mikey Gottschalk to extend the Tommies lead 3-0. Max Moris then hit an RBI single to left field, driving Ben Vujovich home.

The Redhawks' first hit of the game was a solo home run in the bottom of the third, putting SEMO on the board.

Neither team scored over the next four innings, with each team recording one hit.

At the bottom of the sixth inning, Zak Endres made his Tommie debut on the mound. Endres contributed two strikeouts through 2.0 innings.

Max Nyrop recorded his second home run of the season at the top of the eighth, extending the Tommies' lead 5-2.

The Redhawks responded, adding a run in the bottom of the eighth, headed into the final inning down by two runs.  

Down 5-3 at the bottom of the ninth, the Redhawks loaded the bases with two outs. SEMO hit a pop up near its dugout, where Max Moris caught the foul ball to end the ballgame.

TOMMIE TIDBITS
· Walker Retz (1-1), Endres and Carl Cano combined for four strikeouts, allowing five hits in this afternoon's contest.
· Max Nyrop drove home two RBIs and added a home run in to help lift the Tommies over the Redhawks.
· Brigs Richartz and Max Moris each recorded an RBI for the Tommies in game one of the weekend.

St. Thomas Baseball continues its series against SEMO with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24 at noon.
