Tommies sweep Summit League Peak Performer accolades

ST. PAUL, MINN.  – The University of St. Thomas swim and dive team got some outstanding news to open its off week. After resounding performances against St. Cloud State on Saturday, the Tommies swept the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week accolades, the League office announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Alex Foti (Waukesha, Wis. / Waukesha West) was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week for men's swimming for the second time in his career, while teammate Austin Kantor (Elk River, Minn. / Elk River) earned his first conference weekly honor after being named the Summit League Peaker Performer in men's diving. On the women's side, both Sophia Hayes (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) and Hattie Opdahl (Lindstrom, Minn. / Chisago Lakes) earned Summit League Peak Performer honors for the first time in their careers, earning the award for women's swimming and women's diving respectively.

Alex Foti (Sr.; Freestyle; Waukesha, Wis. / Waukesha)
Foti earned Summit League Peak Performer of the Week honors for the second time in his career with the Tommies Tuesday afternoon after a strong weekend against the Huskies. The senior notched three top-3 finishes on Saturday and recorded top-10 times in both individual races. Foti won the 1000 freestyle with a season best time of 9:41.02 before finishing second in the 500 with a time of 4:41.02. After the weekend, Foti currently ranks sixth in the conference in the 1000 free and seventh in the 500.
 
Sophia Hayes (So.; Freestyle; Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central)
Hayes was named the Summit League Peak Performer of the Week for women's swimming after leading St. Thomas to a 189-111 win over St. Cloud State on Saturday. The sophomore won a slew of events as an individual and put up personal record (PR) times in both the 200 and 500 freestyle races on Saturday. Hayes won the 200 with a PR time of 1:52.98 before winning the 500 with a time of 5:03.13. She ranks top-10 in both races after her career best performances, ranking sixth in the 200 and fourth in the 500 freestyle after the weekend.
 
Austin Kantor (So.; Diving; Elk River, Minn. / Elk River)
Kantor has emerged as the Tommies top male diver in 2024-25 and earned his first ever Peak Performer of the Week honor for his efforts against the Huskies. Kantor finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter competition against St. Cloud State and just missed a first place finish in the 1-meter. The sophomore finished second in the competition with a score of 252.30, less than six points behind first place, before finishing second in 3-meter with a six dive score of 236.30.
 
Hattie Opdahl (So.; Diving; Lindstrom, Minn. / Lindstrom)
Opdahl continued to take the diving boards by storm this season and earned yet another sweep of the diving events. The sophomore won the 1-meter competition with a season best score of 253.80, which was over 30 points higher than the runner up. She then went on to win the 3-meter competition with a six dive score of 231.50. It's the third time this season Opdahl has swept both diving events.
