Six Tommies earn victories in singles play on day one of NIU Invite

DeKalb, Ill. – The St. Thomas Women's Tennis team opened play at the NIU Invitational on Friday morning.

In morning doubles play, the duo of Anna Sidorenko and Marthe Degeorges picked up the Tommies' first win of the weekend, defeating a pair from Lewis University, 6-4.

Jannah ElNemr and Regina Talavera earned the second victory, defeating a duo from Lewis and IU Indianapolis, 6-2. Remaining undefeated through the semifinals round of the day, ElNemr and Talavera defeated a Marquette pair, 6-4.

Finally in doubles, Caroline Lindahl and Lily Olson added a win for the Purple, defeating another pair from Marquette, 6-2.

Six Tommies earned victories in singles play on Friday afternoon:

Lindahl defeated Emma Davis of Marquette, 6-4, 6-4.
Degeorges picked up a victory over Aiyana Abbott of Marquette, 7-5, 6-2.
Sidorenko defeated Lucia Yecora of the Huskies, 6-3, 2-6, 13-11.
Olson earned a win against Reagan Welch of NIU, 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.
Anna Louise Bjørnestad defeated Marquette opponent, Elena Duva, 6-1, 6-4
Ingrid Forsberg battled and earned a singles victory over Luciana Mendoza of Marquette, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
