Raddatz, Swanson lead Track and Field on day one at Summit meet

Fargo, N.D. -- St. Thomas Men's Track and Field had four athletes score team points with top-eight finishes Thursday on day one of the Summit League Championships.

With three of 21 events completed, the Purple have 11 points and sit in fourth place out of eight teams. North Dakota State leads at 44, followed by South Dakota State (39), South Dakota (14), the Tommies (11), Oral Roberts (six) and North Dakota (three).

Junior Nate Raddatz and senior Josh Dolezal set career bests in the javelin: Raddatz placed fourth in 192-0, and Dolezal took seventh in 178-5.Senior James Klecker threw a career-best 169-6 and took ninth place.

Sophomores Charles Caven (31:54) and Harris Anderson (32:32) placed sixth and eighth in the 25-lap 10,000 meters race. Caven dropped nearly two minutes off his previous 10K best.

In the 10-event decathlon, Raddatz and Cameron Schulz are in fourth and sixth place, with the final five events remaining on Friday. The defending champion, Raddatz clocked 11.13 in the 100 and 51.15 in the 400; 22-4 1-2 in the long jump; 40-9 3-4 in the shot put; and 5-11 1-2 in the high jump.


Tommie Women's Day 1

Grad student Anna Swanson (146-11) and sophomore Brianna Schoenrock (career-best 136-2) placed 2-4 in the javelin to score 13 points and lead the Tommie Women on Thursday's opening day.

Katie Nollette placed eighth in the pole vault in a career-best 12-3 1-3 and chipped in one team point.

With four of 21 events completed, the Purple have 14 points and sit in fifth place out of nine teams. South Dakota leads at 62.5 points followed by North Dakota State (35.5), South Dakota State (24), North Dakota (20) and the Tommies (14).

In the seven-event heptathlon, Josie Liebl and Mara McNaughton are in sixth and eighth place with three events remaining on Friday. Liebl had a career-best in the shot put (33-1 1-4) and also clocked 15.55 in the 100 hurdles. McNaughton had a career-best in the 200 dash (26.95).

Ava Pankratz placed 11th in the 10,000 (38:43).

Friday's schedule will move up one hour due to weather concerns.
