St. Paul, Minn. -- StoneRidge Golf Club and St. Thomas Athletics have entered into a partnership as the home course for Tommie men's and women's golf.
"We could not be more appreciative and excited about this partnership with Stoneridge, which provides a premier golf facility and a true 'home course' for Tommie Golf!" said Phil Esten, Vice-President and Director of Athletics. "This is a tremendous boost to both of our golf programs in allowing our student-athletes the support and opportunity to continue developing their skills for Division I competition."
Consistently ranked as the top public-access course in the Minneapolis-St. Paul region, StoneRidge was designed by Bobby Weed and features a links style layout. The semi-private facility, which opened for play in the year 2000, is located 19 miles east of campus on Interstate 94 in Stillwater, Minn.
"When the opportunity to become the home of Tommie golf, we knew it was a perfect fit after speaking with our owner, Mr. Dave Kloeber," said Joel Burger, CEO of WEXFORD Golf. "StoneRidge is unique in the fact that it can host both D-I men's and women's golf and we feel very fortunate to be able to partner with the University of St. Thomas at such a historic time for their programs. Our members and staff are proud to fly the Tommie flag."
"We are thrilled to have StoneRidge become the home course of St. Thomas golf," said Tommie men's head coach Matt Rachey. "The championship golf course, practice facilities, and proximity to campus will all be tremendous assets to our programs. A big thank you to Joel Burger and his staff for their support of Tommie Golf!"
"We are excited to have StoneRidge be the home of Tommie Golf," said St. Thomas women's coach Katie Hanneman. "It's an amazing golf course with a great practice facility that is always in championship condition. Having a place to call home for both programs will be an incredible asset for our growth. We thank Joel, the staff, as well as the membership for welcoming Tommie Golf to StoneRidge."
In summer 2021 St. Thomas elevated all 21 of its varsity sports teams from Division III into Division I athletics -- the first time in NCAA history an institution moved all of its varsity sports in the same year from D-III to D-I. Both Tommie golf teams compete in The Summit League.
