Women's Tennis breaks through for first win

Bloomington, Minn. -- After several near misses this season, host Tommie Women's Tennis pulled out three close matches and recorded its first victory of 2023. The Toms won 4-3 over Northern Illinois on Sunday at the Bloomington Lifetime Fitness courts.
All six players won in either singles or doubles for the Tommies (1-5), who had lost three 4-3 decisions earlier this month.
Nicole Snezhko and Monterey Knewtson won at first doubles, and Olivia Paradise and Shrichandrakala Tentu won at No. 2 to claim the doubles point.
Marthe Degeorges, Jannah ElNemr and Paradise won and Nos. 1-2-3 singles.
Quoting Coach Lois Arterberry:
"This was our first 4-3 win this season. I'm really happy with our performances today. (We) laid it all out there. A lot of heart, a lot of fight. I feel like it's been a long time coming, and to get a win against a really tough opponent like Northern Illinois, it's an honor.
"I think we're only going to go up from here, and we're going to continue to work and continue to build our confidence on the tennis court. I'm proud of how we did it. Jannah fought all the way to the end. Olivia pulled out a win in her three-set match. Marthe also had a good battle today and got a win. In doubles. we fought and earned some wins, and that doubles point was really crucial."
Next Up
The Purple travel to Colorado next weekend and play Air Force on Saturday and Denver on Sunday.
