Desotell, Pratt, Keller, 4x4 score Sunday at Summit meet

Vermillion, S.D. -- Tommie Women's Track and Field placed fifth in the 4x400 relay in 4:01.38 to add four team points in Sunday's final day at the Summit League Indoor Championships.

Hannah Cornelius, Taynian Walgrave, Hailey Hindt and Alicia Belany comprised the foursome.

St. Thomas closed in seventh out of nine teams over the two-day meet with 18 points. South Dakota (214) topped closest pursuer North Dakota State (166) for the team crown.

Other Sunday points came from Alexis Pratt in the 60 dash (seventh, 7.82); Molly Desotell in the mile (eighth, 5:02.73); and Olivia Keller in the triple jump (eighth, 38-3 1-4).

Other athletes in action included Ava Pankratz in the 5,000 (11th, 18:01.15); Mariana Lehrer, 13th in the triple jump (36-9 1-4); Katie Nollette and Olivia Passeri in the pole vault (10-8 3-4, tied for 12th); Brianna Fleek and Rylie Moore in the high jump (tie for 14th, 5-1).



Saturday story

Sophomore Molly Desotell took second place in the 3,000 meters for eight team points to lead St. Thomas Women's Track and Field in the first of two days at the Summit League Championships at the University of South Dakota.

Desotell clocked 9:46.27. She will come back and run the mile on Sunday.
The Tommies scored 10 points and sit in sixth place in the eight-team race, just behind Kansas City (12) and just ahead of Western Illinois (8).

North Dakota (53) leads South Dakota (46) by seven points atop the standings with five events completed. Others in the top four are North Dakota State (37) and South Dakota State (25).
The final 13 women's events will be contested Sunday.

St. Thomas' other Saturday scoring came with a seventh place in the distance medley relay in 12:36.56 with Alix Gifford, Hailey Hindt, Amaya Lyrek and Elizabeth Gregory.

Freshman Alexis Pratt made the finals in the 60 meters with a 7.71 clocking in the 60 dash. She also missed the finals with a 25.587 run in the 20-0 prelims.


Other Day 1 Highlights

Four Toms finished in the top 15 in the 3K behind Desotell: Ava Pankratz (11th, 10:24); Morgan Ede (13th, 10:40); Gabby Witschen (14th, 10:44); and Hannah Dumansky (15th, 10:46).

Taynian Walgrave just missed the finals by one spot in the 60 hurdles with an 8.80 clocking. Alicia Belany did the same with a ninth place in the prelims in the 800 meters (2:18.45).

In the heptathlon, Mara McNaughton placed 12th in 2,801 points, while Josie Liebl placed 13th in 2,643. Liebl also took 16th in the 60 hurdles prelims (9.79).

Brianna Fleek (17-8) and Olivia Keller (17-5 1-4) placed 15th and 17th in the long jump.

Hannah Cornelius missed the finals in the 400 (59.29). 

Colette Argiro placed 17th in the weight throw (46-11 3-4).
