Women's Hockey Falls to No. 4 Minnesota in Game One of WCHA Quarterfinals

Minneapolis, Minn. – The Golden Gophers of Minnesota scored early and often in game one of the WCHA Playoffs downing St. Thomas Women's Hockey 7-0 at Ridder Arena on Friday night.
Minnesota scored multiple times in each period grabbing three in the first and two in each of the ladder frames. It took them just 64 seconds to open the scoring as Grace Zumwinkle scored her first of two on the night.
Taylor Heise was the only other player with two goals, five different skaters managed to score in the contest.
Saskia Maurer got the start in net for the Tommies and made 33 saves in 40 minutes of work relinquishing five goals. The Toms' freshman netminder, Maggie Malecha, came in as relief in the third period and stopped 10 shots while allowing two goals.
The Tommies were outshot 51-15 on goal and in total the Gophers rifled off 88 shots, 19 of which were blocked by St. Thomas skaters before reaching the net.
