 Last Weekend Recap
The Tommies came away with a successful weekend, taking three of five games at a highly competitive Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, Louisiana.

St. Thomas split its first two games on Friday giving up five unanswered runs in a 5-3 defeat to Northwestern State and outlasting the Nicholls Colonels 4-3 in eight innings.

It was another split on day two. First the Tommies shut-out a Louisiana Tech team that finished 2022 with a 39-20 record, 3-0. Then they fell to the host-team Southeastern Louisiana 10-2.

Their Sunday game ended early due to a previously agreed upon drop-dead time, but the Tommies capitalized and took down the Houston Christian Huskies 4-3 in six innings (all runs were scored in the final inning).

Isabelle True pitched in all three of the Tommies' victories over the weekend. The senior hurler threw 13.2 innings without giving up an earned run. She allowed just seven hits, did not walk a batter, and retired three via the strikeout. She lowered her season ERA to a team-leading 2.37 and her WHIP to a team-leading 0.93. True's ERA is fifth lowest in the Summit League and her batting average against (.200) is fourth best.

Brooke Ellestad hit safely in all five games over the weekend, bringing her hit-streak up to seven games. The sophomore bat also walked three times and brought home two RBI over the weekend. She also smacked her team-leading second homerun of the season and added a double in the game-two win against Nicholls. Ellestad is in the top seven of Summit League hitters in batting average (.393, 7th), on-base percentage (.485, 6th), and slugging percentage (.643, 4th).

Defensively, the Tommies made ten errors across the five games. In the outfield they were led by Kaitlyn Raymond and Avery Wukawitz who played every inning over the weekend and did not make a single error. Freshman back-stop, Kameron Monson retired four runners attempting to steal.

What's up next?
The Tommies will face-off with three different opponents in five games over three days at the Evansville Invite in Evansville, Indiana.

The program is a combined 1-2 against their opposition (have never played Bowling Green or Purdue Fort Wayne). They have been outscored 16-7 in their three games against Evansville. Their most recent game against the Purple Aces was earlier this season at the DePaul Dome Tournament. The Tommies fell 6-2 in that one, Kaitlyn Raymond tallied two hits in the loss.

After two weeks of play in 2023 the Tommies' Friday opponents, Bowling Green and Evansville are 3-6 and 8-1, respectively. On Saturday they start out against Purdue Fort Wayne who are 3-8 and then finish their weekend series with the Falcons. Their final game at the Evansville Invite is on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. against the Mastodons of Purdue Fort Wayne.

The Evansville Aces are the most formidable opponent at the tournament. They have started the year 8-1 (lost 2-1 against DePaul on Feb. 11th) and have won four in a row since. Two of those last four wins came against the Tommies' Summit League foe, Kansas City (11-6 and 8-3 victories). The Roos finished just above the Tommies in the Summit standings last season.

Evansville is led offensively by Hannah Hood. Hood has started the season slashing .400/.571/.800 with two doubles, two homeruns, and six walks. She went 1-2 with an RBI against the Tommies at the DePaul Dome Tournament.

The Purple Aces are excellent in the circle as well. As a staff they have compiled a 1.71 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 49 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. Mikayla Jolly has gotten out to the best start with a staff-leading 0.39 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 18 innings pitched. She went six innings and racked up ten strikeouts in their win against St. Thomas.
