Last Weekend Recap

St. Thomas Women's Hockey took a trip into Columbus to face off with the reigning NCAA national champions and current No. 1 ranked Ohio State and the Buckeyes lived up to their reputation, taking down the Tommies in a well-rounded effort, 6-1.

Before Ohio State's skaters rattled off four unanswered goals in the final two periods, the Tommie cut the champ's lead in half when Maija Almich score her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Almich's season-long linemate Gabby Billing assisted on the play.

The Buckeyes outshot the Tommies throughout the entire 60 minutes ultimately holding a 52-15 shot on goal edge. Ohio State controlled the puck for most of the contest, scoring two goals in each period.

Saskia Maurer continued her strong effort in goal stopping 46 shots on net. Maurer and her teammate, Alexa Dobchuk, are at the top of the WCHA in saves per game this season.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tommies fell 5-0 to the Buckeyes.

Alexa Dobchuk played all sixty minutes in goal for St. Thomas and made 46 saves. Dobchuk stopped .902 percent of Ohio State's 51 shots on net. Overall, the Buckeyes outshot the Tommies 51-17. Dobchuk made 16 saves in the first and third periods and added 14 in the second.

Five different players scored for the Buckeyes in front of a sold-out crowd at the Ohio State Ice Arena in Columbus. Jennifer Gardiner scored one goal and tallied two assists in her team-leading three-point performance.

The Tommies had just two opportunities on the power play but were 0-2 in the game. They were called for just one penalty in the entire weekend series, but the Buckeyes pounced on their only power play opportunity in the first period of game two.

St. Thomas defensemen Lotti Odnoga and Haley Maxwell led the way for the Tommies with three shots on goal apiece. Odnoga also tied three teammates (Hartung, Pahl, Vallario) with two blocks in the game.
