Bloomington, Minn. -- Bradley pulled out a couple of close decisions and claimed a 4-3 non-conference win over St. Thomas here Saturday morning in women's tennis play at the Lifetime Fitness facility.
Bradley improved to 2-3. The Tommies (0-1) are also competing vs. Drake later in the day at the University of Minnesota's Baseline courts.
On Sunday, the Purple return to Baseline to face the host Minnesota Gophers (2:30 p.m.).
Transfer Marthe Degeorges and fifth-year Olivia Paradise won at first and second singles to lead the Tommies. Newcomer Naisha Srivastav also was victories at sixth singles.
In doubles, Nicole Snezhko and Monterey Knewtson won at third doubles, but Bradley won two other matches to take the team point.
Tommie coach Lois Arterberry said the Toms show a lot of potential for this being just their opening match of the season.
"It was good performance. We had some chances, especially in doubles. We played with a little bit of nerves, obviously being our first match of the season. A lot of these other teams (we start out with) are pretty seasoned right now, and we're just getting started.
"We got a good singles performance from Marthe (at No. 1), she showed up and got the job done. Naisha also got the job done in her match (at No. 6). Olivia pulled out her match in the third set (at No. 2). Jannah also fought (third singles) and she didn't get it, and Tentu fought, too (at fifth singles).
"Overall, we look good. We're on an upswing, and if we start this season this way, there's a lot of potential for us to do some things as we move through our season."
