Men’s Soccer falls in a tight battle to Green Bay, 2-1

Akhigbe scored lone goal for the Tommies with his first collegiate goal

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The St. Thomas men's soccer fell on the road to Green Bay on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Tommies found a goal late in the first half to give them a 1-0 lead going into halftime. A goal for Green Bay early in the second half tied up the contest. In the final two minutes of the game, Green Bay found a second goal, putting them in the lead.
 
Offensively, the Tommies launched nine shots, putting two on goal. Miles Akhigbe put both shots on net for the Purple and scored the Tommies' lone goal of the afternoon. Kevin Sliva and Carver Tierney assisted on Akhigbe's goal, both posting their first points of the season.

Defensively, the Tommie defense allowed only five of Green Bay's 15 shots on net.

RECAP
It was a quiet start to Tuesday afternoon's match. The first shot of the game came in the 14th minute from Green Bay, but was blocked by the Purple defense. Moritz Krenc made his first save of the match midway through the first half.
 
The match remained scoreless until Miles Akhigbe scored his first collegiate goal in the final minute of the first half, sending the Tommies into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
 
Green Bay responded with a goal of their own off a penalty kick in the 48th minute of play. The equalizing goal was Green Bay's third shot on goal of the afternoon. The Phoenix went on to add two more shots on goal, ending the match with five shots on net.
 
After the equalizer by the Phoenix, the Tommies had opportunities on two corner kicks, but could not capitalize on the go-ahead goal.
 
In the final two minutes, Green Bay put one past Moritz Krenc to take the lead. The Tommies could not find an equalizing goal in the final minutes of play, and ultimately fell 2-1 in Green Bay.

· Sophomore, Miles Akhigbe scored his first collegiate goal. Akhigbe recorded the Tommies two shots on goal of the afternoon.
· Kevin Sliva and Carver Tierney each recorded their first assist of the season.
· Freshman goalkeeper, Moritz Krenc ended the match with three saves.
