Women’s Tennis to travels to Sioux Falls for exhibitions

Tommies face Augustana, Sioux Falls in Saturday exhibition matches
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Thomas Women's Tennis travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. this Saturday, October 14th to compete against Augustana and Sioux Falls in exhibition matches.
Head Coach, Colby Carlson enters his first season leading the Purple as a head coach, after spending the past two seasons as the Tommie assistant coach. Coach Carlson is joined by assistant coaches Craig Gordon and Shelby Anderson.
The Tommies return six letter winners from a season ago and bring in two newcomers. Junior Marthe Degeorges was among 12 players named to the All-Summit League team in women's tennis for 2023 after she won 10 contests at first singles.
The newcomer group includes first years Caroline Lindahl and Yinong Ma.
Last Time Out
The St. Thomas Women's Tennis team opened competition at the Redbird Invite with two doubles wins and one singles match victory. The Tommies doubles pair of Shrichandrakala Tentu and Jannah ElNemr earned the first win of the day, 8-5, over a Bradley doubles pair. Regina Talavera and Caroline Lindahl picked up the second doubles victory of the day for the Tommies, defeating a UIC duo, 8-6.
Six Tommies competed in singles play on day one of the Redbird Invite, with first-year Yinong Ma earning the lone singles match victory of the afternoon.
On day two of the Redbird invite, Naisha Srivastav earned the lone Tommies win of the day, defeating an opponent from Eastern Illinois 6-2, 6-3.
Jannah ElNemr and Shrichandrakala Tentu picked up a singles and doubles win on day three of the Redbird Invite. In doubles action, Jannah ElNemr and Shrichandrakala Tentu defeated an Eastern Michigan duo, 8-1. ElNemr and Tentu both continued to shine in singles play, each defeating Eastern Illinois competitors in two sets.
Regina Talavera and Caroline Lindahl also earned doubles win on day three of competition. The Tommie pair defeated the hosts, Illinois State, 8-6.
Fall Success
The Tommies have competed in two invitationals so far this fall. Both Tommie returners and newcomers have found success in matches to begin the 2023 fall season.
The Tommies opened their fall 2023 season at the Gopher Invitational in September. Three Tommies won individual matches and one doubles team won their match on the first day of the three-day event.
The Tommies continued to grow over the weekend and finished strong on day three of the Gopher Invite, as the Tennis team earned four doubles match wins on the final day of the Gopher Invitational.
The Tommies double pair, Marthe Degeorges and Yinong Ma, swept their doubles competition, earning two wins this morning. Degeorges and Ma moved on to the second round of the morning and defeated a Gopher pair 6-4.
Shrichandrakala Tentu and Jannah ElNemr earned two doubles victories as a duo, and picked up wins in singles plays as well at the Redbird Invite.
The doubles pairing of Regina Talavera and Caroline Lindahl also found success at the Redbird Invite, earning two wins during the competition.

St. Thomas has one player remaining from the Division III era and its NCAA top-10 and conference champion team of 2020-21. Jannah ElNemr has competed in 96 singles and doubles spring competitions in the first three years of her career.
Next Stop
St. Thomas travels back to Illinois for the NIU Huskie Fall Indoor Invitational on Oct. 27-29. The Purple will play at the Chick Evans Field House in DeKalb, Ill.
St. Thomas closes out its fall portion of the 2023-24 schedule Nov. 3-5 at the Drake Invitational. The Purple will play at the Roger Knabb Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
