Second-half comeback nets first victory for Men's Soccer

Dayton, Ohio - Tommie Men's Soccer scored the tying and go-ahead goals in a 2:26 span early in the second half to record a 3-2 comeback win over Incarnate Word Sunday in non-conference play on a neutral field at the University of Dayton.
It was the first three-goal scoring day of the Division I era for St. Thomas (1-3).
The Purple took a 1-0 lead on a penalty-kick goal by Oliver Bieleveldt in the seventh minute. The Cardinals answered with a goal in the eighth minute, then took a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 38th minute.
Mensah, a Bloomington, Minn., native and transfer from Kansas City, tied the game as he connected in the 63rd minute, assisted by grad transfer Devan DiGrado. It was Mensah's first St. Thomas goal.
Carver Tierney, a freshman from Buffalo, Minn., scored the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute. It was his first collegiate goal.
Freshman Tony Favorite had four saves in the net for the Purple. The Toms were outshot 21-12 and had a 7-2 deficit in corner kicks, but found a way to pull out the win.
"I'm proud of the guys -- they've had a lot thrown at them against good teams on the road," Coach Jon Lowery said. "The plan and player performances keep improving, and the resolve showed a group making a competitive jump and settling into the season ahead. I'm excited to get some guys back and to prepare for our home opener next Saturday (noon) against Stonehill College."
