Brookings, S.D. - The home run ball on a windy day helped make for a long afternoon for Tommie Baseball in Sunday's 9-0, 11-2 losses to South Dakota State to wrap up a three-game Summit League series.
The Summit playoff-bound Jacks (21-19 overall, 12-7 Summit) faced eight different pitchers on Sunday and recorded 21 hits, including eight home runs, along with 14 walks. Over the three-game sweep, SDSU homered 10 times and now has 53 in 40 games on the season.
St. Thomas (13-29, 7-14) had just two hits in the game one shutout loss, by Kyle Halverson and Max Moris.
In game two, the Toms were outhit 10-5. They scored their only runs in the top of the seventh inning. Parker Mathieson's infield single broke up a perfect game, and Sam Kulesa followed with a double to the fence. Halverson drove in the day's first run with an infield single, and Max Moris' sac fly scored the other run to cut the lead to 7-2.
St. Thomas closes its season later this week with three home games vs. Omaha -- Thursday and Friday afternoon at Koch Diamond, and Saturday evening in Miesville, Minn. (5 p.m.).
Tommie Notes
