Youngsville, La. - St. Thomas softball (2-8) was tripped up in an 8-0 loss on Sunday to Southeastern Louisiana (10-3) in the team's final game of the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, La.
The Tommies found themselves trailing the Lions early, after spotting Southeastern Louisiana a pair of three-run innings and trailing 6-0 after two full frames.
St. Thomas threatened with runners on in both the first and third innings but was unable to scratch a run across against the Southeastern Louisiana pitching. In the top of the fourth, Maddie Grad led off with a single, and Brooke Ellestad reached on a walk, yet the team could still not tally a clutch hit to put the team on the board.
Freshman outfielder Kaitlyn Raymond led the Tommies with two base hits. Fellow frosh Brooke Ellestad recorded one base hit and reached on a walk, while catcher Maddie Grad finished as the other Tommie to reach on a hit.
Megan Baniecke got the starting nod and struck out two batters in two innings, allowing six runs. Senior Kendall Hopkins, working in relief of Baniecke, tossed 2.2 innings, while striking out two. The only two runs that Hopkins allowed came in the final inning on a walk-off homer by Southeastern Louisiana.
