Men place fifth at league indoor meet behind multi-runner-up Rosner

Three score in heptathlon; Morey Smith scores in 3,000, mile

Grand Forks, N.D. -- Freshman Jack Rosner's runner-up finish in the heptathlon led St. Thomas Men's Track and Field to fifth place out of seven teams at the Summit League Indoor Championship meet. The Purple scored 48.5 points in the two-day meet, with scoring from 16 athletes in two relays and nine individual events.

Rosner received the Newcomer of the Championship award after he tied for second place in the heptathlon with 4,418 points.

South Dakota State (173) edged South Dakota (171) for the team championship, with North Dakota State (157) a close third.

Oral Roberts (63.5) and St. Thomas (48.5) took the next two team spots. 

Saturday scorers for the St. Thomas men were:
  • Morey Smith took fourth in the mile (4:08.78), after he recorded a sixth-place in Friday's 3,000.
  • Rosner, Nate Raddatz (4,647) and freshman Sam May (4,574) placed 2-6-7 in the heptathlon for 13 team points.
  • Eric Douville placed sixth in the 200 (21.71).
  • Grady Clem placed seventh in the high jump (6-2 3-4).
  • Biel Wiel placed eighth in the mile (4:12.30).
  • Carter Maack took eighth in the 60 hurdles (8.34).
  • Freshman Will Hanson took eighth in the triple jump (44-8).
  • The 4x400 relay placed sixth in 3:22.08 with Rosner, Douville, Mason Thedens and Calvin Bream.

Charlie Caven just missed scoring as he took ninth in the 5,000 (14:43.78).
