Strong start not enough in Men's Basketball road loss at South Dakota State

Brookings, S.D. - St. Thomas men's basketball (8-16, 2-13 Summit League) fell on the road at South Dakota State (25-4, 16-0 Summit League), 79-60, on Saturday in Brookings.
Senior guard Riley Miller led the Tommies with 27 points scored against the Jackrabbits, hitting on 8-13 three-points, and going 3-3 from the charity stripe. Miller matched his previous career high on treys with eight, coming at the Division III level, against Concordia-Moorhead on Feb. 6, 2021. Twice this season Miller has made seven three-pointers in a contest.
Forwards Parker Bjorklund (8) and Brooks Allen (7) combined for 15 boards with Bjorklund leading the team. In addition, Allen led the Tommies with four assists, and added five points offensively.
In the first half, St. Thomas jumped out to a 20-10 lead, after a three-pointer from Miller on a Bjorklund assist. Following that made three by Miller, the Jacks would accumulate a 19-10 run over the final 14:02 to take a nine-point lead into the half. Over the initial 20 minutes, St. Thomas shot 28.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from deep, and 100.0 percent at the free throw line.
St. Thomas would not trail by less than nine points in the second half. The shooting struggles from the first half would translate to the final 20 minutes for the Tommies, going 33.3 percent from the field, 29.1 percent from deep, and making just one free throw out of three attempts.
In the game, St. Thomas was outscored 38-12 on points in the pain, and received 17 points off the bench. The Jackrabbits totaled 22 points from the bench and totaled nine points off eight Tommie turnovers. The Tommies grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and limited South Dakota State to just one board on the offensive end.
The Tommies close out the regular season with three games, one on the road, and two at home over the next seven days. The next game up for the Purple is at North Dakota on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m.
