Miami, Fla. -- Florida International spoiled St. Thomas Baseball's Division I debut Friday night scoring the tying run in the last of seventh inning and the winning run in the ninth for a 4-3 non-conference victory.

The Panthers outhit the Tommies 8-4, led by junior Alec Sanchez's 4-for-5 night. The Florida State transfer hit a solo home run in the seventh inning and an RBI single in the ninth.

The host team walked off with an unearned run in the ninth off Tommie reliever T.J. Constertina. After a fly out, a single was misplayed in the outfield and the FIU runner advanced to third base. Sanchez followed with an RBI single to close out the victory.

Two FIU relievers allowed no runs, no walks and one hit over the last 4 1-3 innings to help secure the win.

Tommie senior starter Graham Laubscher struck out eight and allowed two runs, four hits and five walks in six innings before leaving with a 3-2 lead. The lefty gave up a bases-loaded single in the first inning that plated two runs, but he struck out two to end that threat.

The Toms went ahead in the fifth inning on a two-out bases-loaded walk to Jake Porter followed by a two-run single by Charlie Bartholomew.

The teams are scheduled to play two seven-inning games on Saturday (noon Minnesota time start), and one nine-inning clash on Sunday (noon). St. Thomas will send transfer Devon Schewe and soph Kolby Gartner to the mound as starters in the Saturday games.
